Air Quality Assessment Case Study

Background

The clients were looking to purchase a prestige detached property in the Malvern Hills but had reservations due to a consented waste incinerator being built some 400m south of the property. The consented incinerator would be capable of incinerating 8,000 tonnes of medical waste each year and utilises 15 m stacks.

The clients were concerned about potential pollution, smell and smoke risks.

Issue

The consented waste incinerator had been properly scrutinised through the planning and permitting process. However, the technical air quality assessment and permit documents were not palatable to the lay person, so the clients couldn’t find the answers to their concerns.

Solution

DustScanAQ undertook due diligence of the air quality assessment to ensure that the conclusions were robust. Once we were satisfied that the conclusions were accurate, the documents were translated into a non-technical summary (NTS) addressing the clients concerns. A follow up conference call was held to ensure the clients fully understood what they had been provided with.

Outcome

The NTS was well received by the clients, who formalised their interest in the property.

Feedback

We recently contracted with DustcanAQ to investigate potential pollution, smell and smoke risks from an incinerator plant near a house we were planning to buy. Although we were not their normal clients, they delivered exactly what we needed to make a decision. A report that was clear, concise, fast and in a language we could understand. Made decision making easy

Would highly recommend the firm and most certainly would use them again
