DustScan follow best practice guidance in all assessments and reports, and both current and ex-members of staff have contributed to relevant guidance whilst working at DustScan, including as members of the committee for The Institute of Air Quality Management.
Relevant Guidance
Key relevant publications that are regularly used by our team include:
- The Institute of Air Quality Management “Guidance on the Assessment of Mineral Dust Impacts for Planning” guidance, which sets out an assessment methodology for estimating the impacts of new minerals development. DustScan employees contributed to this guidance.
- The Institute of Air Quality Management “Assessment of dust from demolition and construction” guidance, updated in 2023, which sets out guidance on assessing construction dust for estimating the impacts on receptors near to any construction work and relevant construction dust control measures.
- The Environment Agency “Monitoring Particulate Matter in Ambient Air around Waste Facilities” Technical Guidance Note (Monitoring) M17. Version 2 (2013), which sets out dust monitoring standards around waste facilities, including the use of sticky pad dust monitors.
- The Institute of Air Quality Management “Air Quality Monitoring in the Vicinity of Demolition and Construction Sites” guidance, which sets out recommended dust monitoring methods around construction sites, including the use of both sticky pad dust monitors and real time dust and air quality monitoring. DustScan employees contributed to this guidance.
- AEA Report to The Mineral Industry Research Organisation (MIRO) “Good practice guide: control and measurement of nuisance dust and PM10 from the extractive industries” which sets out recommended practice for the use sticky pad dust monitors and appropriate mitigation methods for the extractive industries. DustScan employees contributed to this guidance.
