Workplace Air Quality and Noise Monitoring Services
Occupational Exposure (Air)
DustScanAQ are experts in workplace dust exposure monitoring, including the assessment and characterisation of inhalable and respirable dusts such as respirable crystalline silica (RCS).
We regularly carry out occupational exposure monitoring for a range of workplace aerosols, including:
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
- Asbestos fibres
- Machine-made mineral fibres (MMMF)
- Welding and solder fumes
- Acid fumes
- Oil mists
- Bioaerosols
- Gases
What sets us apart is our fully managed, hands-on service. We supervise all monitoring directly on site, taking an impartial, professional approach. During assessments, we observe staff activities and behaviours, identify potential pollutant sources, and review any existing control measures already in place.
Occupational Exposure (Noise)
DustScanAQ are specialists in occupational noise exposure monitoring and provide comprehensive workplace noise assessments and surveys to help employers meet regulations and protect their workforce.
Where personnel are at risk of exceeding noise exposure limits, employers are required under UK occupational noise regulations to:
- Ensure exposure does not exceed legal limit values
- Manage and monitor exposure action values
- Carry out a full occupational noise assessment
- Provide employees with training, information, and suitable hearing protection
- Implement an effective health surveillance programme
- Take steps to eliminate or reduce risks through a noise control action plan
DustScanAQ’s workplace noise monitoring services provide employers with the data and expert guidance needed to meet these obligations. Our occupational noise surveys include a site visit, detailed measurements, and a clear report with recommendations for compliance and improved protection of staff.
Indoor Air Quality
DustScanAQ conduct indoor air quality assessments across industrial, commercial, educational and public environments.
We monitor airborne pollutants such as:
- Particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5)
- Carbon dioxide (CO2)
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
We use a range of high-grade monitoring equipment and UKAS-accredited laboratories. All results are benchmarked against authoritative guidelines includes those published by the WHO, CIBSE and the Building Regulations ADF1.
LEV Testing & Asssessment
At DustScan, we specialise in Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) testing and assessment to help you control airborne contaminants like dust, fumes, vapours, and gases – and achieve full COSHH compliance under UK regulations.
What’s Included:
- Visual inspection: Detect wear, damage, blockages or design issues
- Airflow and velocity testing: Precise measurements with calibrated instruments
- Smoke testing: Validate that contaminants are contained at the source
- Benchmarks checked: Compare results against design specs and HSG258 standards
- Comprehensive report: Includes photos, diagrams, measurements, and recommendations
Our independent service follows HSG258 guidance, delivering thorough LEV system examination, airflow testing, and smoke checks to verify capture effectiveness and system performance. We then provide clear, actionable reporting to guide improvements.
Occupational Exposure Guidance
At DustScanAQ, all of our assessments follow current best-practice guidance. A selection of relevant workplace exposure guidelines is available on our workplace air quality guidance page, including:
- Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) (2002)
- The Building Regulations (2010)
- UK Government, Building Bulletin 101 (BB101) (2018)
